Christening Gown Accessories
Bibs
- Tyler Bib features silk dupioni fabric with tone on tone machine embroidery and machine feather stitching.
- These bibs have machine embroidery on them and would make wonderful gifts.
A bib can be made to match your Christening gown. It would be made out of the same material as your gown. It can feature an embroidery, lace, or other details found in the gown. The neck line is finished with a self fabric bias strip. The bib can have ribbon or a self fabric tie or can be finished with a loop and button.
Simple bibs that include an embroidery, monogram, or other simple details start at $20. Lace edging around the bib or the use of multiple lace or insertions will increase the cost.
Bonnets
- Alice Bonnet features a turned back brim trimmed in cotton lace.
There are numerous possibilities for a bonnet to match a Christening gown. The bonnet is made out of the fabrics and laces used in the gown. Bonnets can be very frilly with ruffles and lace or more tailored with no lace. I try to use 100% silk satin ribbons for the ties.
Several of the pictures of Christening gowns on the View Gowns page show the bonnets that were made to go with that gown.
I especially like this simple rectangular bonnet as I can easily incorporate design details from the Christening gown into it. I have shown what it looks like flat and then with the back ribbon drawn up and tied on the bonnet form. This particular bonnet features an exquisite piece of Swiss embroidered insertion in pastel colors and would make a wonderful gift.
Fitted bonnets with limited lace start at $25. Rectangular bonnets with insertions, lace and ruffles or front brim start at $30. Bonnets ordered to accompany a Christening gown with fabrics and laces the same as on the Christening gown start at $25.
Precious Child of God Pillow
This pillow cover would make an exquisite heirloom baby gift. It is machine embroidered on a 100% linen 13 inch by 18 inch pillow cover featuring hem stiching around the edges and opening in the center back. It is also available pillow case style with hem stiching around the bottom only and open at the bottom. A variety of fonts could be used and I have an extensive library of embroidery designs. This pillow can also feature birth and death dates to be used as a memorial gift.
Family History Slip
This is an example of what can be done to record a family history on the slip for a very special Christening gown. This example is done in 100% cotton batiste with the machine embroidery done in ecru. This is a popular look but the embroidery could also be done with white threads. The example contains the name of the baby, date of birth, baptism date, name of the church, and parents and grandparents names and their home towns. As additional babies wear the gown and slip, their names could be added. The back of the slip has two verses of scripture embroidered on it.
